Mobile App Development in Toronto

iOS, Android and web applications, designed around the people who will use them and the tasks they need to complete. We agree the features, platforms, timeline and price before development starts.

Mobile App Development in Toronto

Sklentr is a mobile app development company in Toronto building iOS, Android and web applications for businesses across the GTA and Canada. We design around the people who will use the app and the tasks they need to complete, and we agree the features, platforms, timeline and price before development starts.

What we build

iOS and Android apps

Native or cross-platform depending on what the app has to do. We recommend based on your features, budget and timeline rather than on a default.

Web applications

Browser-based tools with accounts, permissions and workflows. Often the right answer when your users are at a desk rather than on the move, and always cheaper to maintain than two native apps.

Interface and user-flow design

Screens and journeys mapped before anything is built. The most expensive app problems are the ones designed in, not coded in.

API integrations

Connections to the systems the app depends on: payments, maps, messaging, your existing backend, third party data.

Admin tools

The dashboard your team uses to run what the app does. Users, content, moderation, reporting. Apps without admin tools become apps only a developer can operate.

Testing and release

Testing on real devices, App Store and Play Store submission, and the release work that goes with it. Store review is a step people forget to budget time for.

Deciding what your app actually needs

Most app projects go wrong in scope rather than code. Before we quote anything we work through five questions with you:

  • Who uses this, and on what device?
  • What is the one task it must make easy?
  • What does the main journey look like from open to done?
  • Which features are essential for the first release and which can wait?
  • What has to fit the timeline and budget you actually have?

If we cannot answer those together, the estimate would be fiction.

Native, cross-platform or web

Three routes, and the right one depends on the app.

Native means separate iOS and Android builds. Best performance and full access to device features, highest cost, two codebases to maintain.

Cross-platform means one codebase for both. Materially cheaper, good enough for most business apps, occasional limits on device-specific features.

Web application means no app store at all. Cheapest to build and update, no store review, works everywhere, but no push notifications on some platforms and no offline use without extra work.

We will tell you which fits on the call, including when the answer is that you do not need an app at all.

How long app development takes

Three to six months for most business apps, measured from approved scope rather than from the first conversation.

A focused app with a handful of screens and one integration can be ready sooner. A marketplace with accounts, payments, messaging and moderation will not be. What moves the number is rarely the development itself: it is how long decisions take, whether designs are signed off, and whether access to the systems the app connects to was arranged before it was needed.

Budget two to three weeks on top for store review. Apple and Google both review submissions, both reject for things that are fixable, and neither moves faster because you have a launch date. People forget this step and then lose a fortnight they had already promised to someone.

What it costs

More than most people expect, and the range is genuinely wide. A focused app with a few screens and one integration is a different project from a marketplace with accounts, payments, messaging and moderation.

What drives the number: how many platforms, how many screens, how many integrations, and whether you need an admin system to run it.

We scope first and quote in writing. If your budget is fixed, tell us on the first call and we will tell you honestly what is achievable inside it, including when the answer is nothing worth building.

Working with app developers in Toronto

We are based in Toronto with a delivery team in Dhaka, which is the arrangement we describe openly on our about page because it is relevant to how a project runs rather than something to hide.

What it means in practice: the people you scope with, review with and sign off with are in your timezone, and the build capacity costs less than a wholly Toronto-based team would. For a GTA business, that usually shows up as a larger first release for the same budget.

It also means we can meet. For a project of this size that matters more than people expect, because the decisions that go wrong are the ones made over email by people who have never been in a room together.

Apps and platforms we have built

Twelve delivered client projects since 2023. The ones closest to app work:

  • MedTouch, a healthcare platform connecting patient records and laboratory data into one workflow for clinical teams
  • Navigotech, the platform behind a wheelchair sensor system, covering demo requests, installation scheduling and customer management
  • KindredCare, a care marketplace matching families with caregivers, with interview scheduling and configurable services

The full portfolio covers AgriTech, fintech, retail and SaaS.

Common questions about app development

How much does it cost to build an app in Toronto?

The range is genuinely wide, and anyone quoting before scoping is guessing. What drives the number is how many platforms, how many screens, how many integrations, and whether you need an admin system to run it. We scope first and quote in writing. If your budget is fixed, say so on the first call.

How long does it take to build an app?

Three to six months for most business apps from approved scope, plus two to three weeks for app store review. Smaller single-purpose apps are faster. What extends a timeline is usually unmade decisions rather than development time.

Should I build for iOS, Android or both?

Look at your users rather than at market share. If your customers are overwhelmingly on one platform, start there and add the second once the app has earned it. Cross-platform development makes building both at once affordable, which is why most business apps go that route.

Do I need a native app or would a web app do?

Often a web app would do, and it is cheaper to build and far cheaper to maintain. You need native when you need push notifications everywhere, offline use, or deep access to device features like the camera or background location. We will tell you on the call when the answer is that you do not need an app at all.

Who owns the app and the code?

You do. The code, the designs, the repositories and the store listings are yours at handover, with documentation. The developer accounts should be registered in your company name, and we will set them up that way.

Do you handle App Store and Play Store submission?

Yes, including the listing, the screenshots, the privacy declarations and the review process itself. Both stores reject submissions for things that are routine to fix, and knowing which ones in advance saves a cycle.

What happens after launch?

Apps need maintenance whether or not you add features: operating system updates, store policy changes, library updates and security patches. We offer support on an agreed schedule and it is optional. What is not optional is somebody doing it, and an unmaintained app eventually stops working.

Do you work with businesses outside Toronto?

Yes. Most of our clients are in the GTA and we work with businesses across Canada and internationally. App development does not require us to be in the same city as you, though for larger projects it helps.
